- In order to enhance the understanding of research progress at other academic institutions both domestically and internationally among the faculty and students of our institute, to strengthen research exchanges within the institute, and to train students in oral presentation skills, the "Implementation Measures for Research Project Seminars and Journal Clubs at the Graduate Institute of Oral Biological Sciences, College of Dentistry, National Taiwan University" (hereinafter referred to as these Measures) are hereby established.
- Responsible Instructor: Full-time faculty members will attend and provide guidance.
- Class time: Every Monday PM 3:30 ~5:00
- Class Location: Room 403, 4th Floor, College of Dentistry - 9424.
- Implementation Details:
-
Students will present their research progress in a proposal (starting from the second semester of the first academic year until the second semester of the second academic year after enrollment). In the final of the "Research Project Seminar and Journal Club" course, the presentation will be conducted in English to enhance students' English reporting skills. This will be implemented for students enrolled from the 112 academic year onwards.
-
Seminars can be presented in Chinese during the required academic years of all courses, but they can also be presented in English. Those who present in English may receive additional points according to the provisions of Section 6, Point 4. Seminars will be implemented starting from the first semester of the first academic year after enrollment. At least three weeks in advance, students should consult with their assigned advisor regarding the research paper for that week. Once confirmed, the electronic version of the selected article should be submitted to the department office and the responsible teacher three weeks in advance. The electronic version of the article will be sent to the students in the class by the teaching assistant.
-
Seminars and Proposals are guided by full-time faculty members. Advisors and co-advisors of students presenting Proposals are kindly requested to attend and provide guidance.
-
Each student's presentation time is 20 minutes (a bell will ring at 15 minutes, and the presentation will end after the bell rings again at 20 minutes), followed by 10 minutes of discussion. If the presentation exceeds the allotted time, the supervising professor may terminate the presentation and deduct points accordingly.
-
Questions asked during Seminar and Proposal sessions will be scored separately. For Proposal sessions, each student must ask at least 3 questions per semester. Students who ask fewer than three questions will fail the semester assessment, while those who ask 4 or more can receive additional points in accordance with the relevant regulations. For Journal Club sessions, each student must ask at least 6 questions per semester. Students who ask fewer than six questions will fail the semester assessment, while those who ask 7 or more can receive additional points in accordance with the relevant regulations. Each semester, students must ask 4 questions in Chinese and 2 in English. Questions regarding presentations delivered in Chinese must be asked in Chinese, whereas questions regarding presentations delivered in English must be asked in English..
- The overall course grade will be evaluated based on the following points: (1) oral presentation score, (2) number of classroom questions, (3) student attendance rate, (4) for each English presentation given during the required academic year in all Seminar courses, 2 points will be added to the semester's total grade to reward students for reporting in English, (5) for each English Proposal presented two or more times during the required academic year in all courses, 2 points will be added to the semester's total grade to reward students for reporting in English. The overall grade will be jointly assessed by the course instructor and attending teachers.
- The initial order of the Seminar will be determined by drawing lots. If there are any changes in the order, the teaching assistant from the institute office will be responsible for coordination. Once the order is finalized, any changes must be approved by the teacher in charge of that week; otherwise, no arbitrary changes are allowed.
- Those who are unable to attend due to unavoidable reasons must fill out a leave application online according to the school's regulations and request leave from the instructor (personal leave or official leave must be requested in advance, sick leave can be requested afterwards, official leave requires supporting documents). One unexcused absence or failure to report will result in a deduction of 5 points from the total score. Two unexcused absences or failure to report will result in failing the semester's performance evaluation.
- Those who fail to report due to unavoidable reasons should make up the report before the end of the course. The order of make-up reports will be coordinated by the teaching assistant of the institute office, otherwise, the semester's performance evaluation will not be passed.
- If the content of the report is unsatisfactory, the advising professor may require the student to submit a written report. The written report must be submitted within three weeks. Failure to submit on time will result in a failing grade for the semester's evaluation.
- Students must sign in and out for each class. The sign-in time will be randomly checked during the class, and late sign-ins will not be allowed. The sign-in and sign-out process is managed by the teaching assistant.
-
- These regulations shall be implemented upon approval by the Curriculum Committee, and the same applies to any amendments.
